Comments are fun. I especially like those correcting grammar or punctuation. Let's play.

The trip down south

I was pretty excited/nervous to actually get this show on the road. There has been lots of preparing and waiting. Now it's actually time to do it. I'm sitting in the Mexico City airport right now typing about my experience so far.

After I stayed up all night Thursday night to pack, repack, and stress about what was going to happen, it was time to set off to Dallas. I had planned to take a 30 minute nap at the house before we left. Too bad that didn't happen. Luckily brother drove to the Dallas airport while I pretended to navigate and sleep for a bit. It was here that I felt myself getting the most nervous as I had ever been about the trip. We made it in plenty of time though. There were no major problems. Only one of my suitcases was overweight. I expected them both to be over the limit. There's nothing I can really do though. I gave up lots of stuff like my extra protein blender, wifi scale, fourth pair of dress boots, a week's worth of gym clothes, lots of cute socks and underwear, and countless fun vegetable cooking supplies. I'll take 2 kilos overweight. That was a victory for me considering the rigorous selection process everything had gone through.

Another small victory is that I carried out all conversations with personnel in Spanish since the moment I began interacting with people in Dallas. Go me. Actually, I did sneak in a tidbit of my mother language as I pretended a lady had a lovely smile and commented on her use of it with cranky travelers. I think she appreciated the English comment. Back to Spanish conversations, I only had one small slip up so far. I was trying to find out where my plane from Mexico City to Santiago would be and was looking for terminal 1 at the same time. I planned a lovely comment in my head to address the lady at the information desk. Somehow my question and comment got smashed together in one creeper-spanglish ordeal. "I like how to get to your terminal" came out of my mouth. Oopsie doopsie. Better luck next time.

Just for fun, here's a pic of my last day hanging out in East Texas. That might deserve a whole new entry, but it gets a pic for now.

Anyway, here I am waiting for my flight to Santiago. The plan is to pop a xanax (or 4) and wake up in another country. I can't wait. Stay tuned for more adventures. It is only beginning.
